Sep. 16th, 2005 01:58 pmThere are good docks, and there are good docks. And then there are the docks of Lavinia's capital.
It's a polished Core station to the last, complete with auto-dockers that rise to grasp the ship when it's one hundred and fifty feet above the landing point. The same ADs, as they pull the Firefly planetside, tap straight into the registration data coded into Serenity's computer: far be it for the citizens of the Unified Allied Planets to do something like try to falsify their docking information.
Mal's jaw sets into a tight line as he looks out the windscreen. Behind him, Wash feels Zoe tense. But whatever they're waiting for doesn't come, and the ship's settled neatly into a free cradle ten seconds later.
When they lower the ramp, a familiar man in dark glasses is already waiting for them. He smiles, quick and sharp.
"Wèi," Crowley says. "Have everything?"
At the crew's general assent, he waves a hand toward a smaller docking station.
"Great. I'm parked over that way. Let's go."
