Wash blinks. There's a bit of a struggle not to laugh.

And then he breaks into a grin, circles "YES," and adds at the bottom, WERE I UNWED AND HADN'T ALREADY PROMISED KAYLEE THE EXACT SAME THING FIRST, I WOULD TAKE YOU IN A MANLY FASHION.

"Pfft. Language barrier? I march right up to the language barrier and poke it in the eye a couple times. I'm much with the fearsome and highly obnoxious eye-poking." A grin. "You're going to have to come up with something bigger than that if you wanna convince me not to sign on...like something involving cows and minor explosions. Maybe both at the same time."

"Oh, it was way, way back. I was just a kid, and -- I was growing up right around the time the atmo back home started failing, right? So you'd sometimes get cooped up inside for weeks and weeks if your oxygen kit got gummed up or the filters ran out. And my mom had this big collection of books she'd always give me when that happened, they had all these Earth-That-Was stories in them....That's where it started. She had this one book in particular that was all about dinosaurs." A chuckle. "I damn near shorted the thing out 'cause I read it so many times.

"I just thought the whole idea of it was so dà biànhuà, you know? I still do. I sometimes get people telling me it's just a myth, the bones the scientists have are fake, all of that, but I always think...'what if it isn't?' How shiny would that be, if a bunch of lizards the size of a lowbulk really were stomping around on Earth-That-Was hundreds of millions of years ago? And it ain't like there's any harm done if I like thinking that kind of thing's true."

He smiles, spreads his hands.

"So I do."

Roger's quiet for a long beat.

"Well, yeah. The accomodations are a hell of a lot better than our shithole of a loft," he finally says. "Don't have to worry too much about how I'm going to find food or AZT, either. And...."

He sighs.

"April. It -- it scared the fuck out of me, at first, her showing up like that, but it really was good seeing her again. Getting to talk to her. Touch her.

"God, I missed her."
